Welcome to Cambodia...
One of the younger nations to be opened for tourism is slowly hitting the limelight of ASEAN tourism market. For a country of 181,000 kilometer square size, it has so many ancient structures and artifacts per square kilometer that it stands as the world's number one country on the density of historical relics per square kilometer. In the last 15 years and with the assistance of many developed countries, Cambodia has made progress in leaps and bounds in promoting tourism thus making it one of the aspiring and newest destination of the East. Although more and more of what remains of the hidden treasures, in the form of temples, are being uncovered and protected, Cambodia is still reeling in the past trying to establish its mystical and ancient connections. Looters are in the forefront of destroying and conducting illicit trading in Cambodian antiquities. Another form of natural destruction is caused by the grip, twist and the strangulation hold of the temple structures by the overgrown trees that have for centuries guarded them. Unlike other tourism destinations of the East, Cambodia has more to offer in Heritage from its ancestors, while at the same time witness the living natural destruction of these places by its foliage and the sad stories that are related by the guides of decades of looting of its ancient artifacts. The other wonder is the preservation of ancient culture, traditions and customs. Till to date many of these are still practiced, preserved and observed by the local population, more so by those who live in the outskirts of the developed cities. Cambodia is one of the least developed countries and with this tagline it is able to open its wide stretched arms to invite tourists who seek tranquility, peace and quiet, unspoilt forest, peaceful hill tribes and sea shores preserved in its natural state. Yours sincerely,
